Prérequis

Intermediate level of command on English language.

Objectifs

The course aims to improve students’ knowledge of the basic concepts of business and develop key vocabularies. There is a strong current events aspect to the class as students will be required to become acquainted with the issues facing companies and executives today. Students can expect to read, interpret and analyze texts for gist, detail and inference. There will also be an emphasis on writing essays, constructing arguments, summarizing and synthesizing.

  • Profit as a motive to understand business

  • How nonprofit businesses work

  • Resources (natural, human, capital)

  • Key stakeholders (Owners, creditors, employees, suppliers, customers, etc)

Modalités

Modalités d'enseignement

The small class sizes are designed to facilitate and ensure language acquisition and use through active student participation and involvement.

Common features of the classes will include: Discussions/debates, Short presentations, Role plays, Short case studies.

Students will be expected to fully prepare in advance for the classes thereby maximizing classroom time. This will involve: the prior acquisition of the necessary vocabulary, the reading of prescribed articles, research on the internet to further their knowledge of the topics.
