Prérequis

Elementary chronology (from Ancient greece to Napoleonian era).

Objectifs

The purpose of this lecture is to point and put into context the emergence of Law, in Antiquity and follow its development through to Napoleonian codifications. This approach will be supported by the observation of the evolutions of the sources of law (legislation, custom, judiciail activity, jurisprudence or legal science) and the inlfuence of important philosophical doctrines.

Chapter 6: Law in the Old Regime: Challenging Absolutism.


Chapter 7: Revolution and Napoleonian Empire: the Codification of Law.
