Objectifs

AIMS

The aim of this module is:

1. Develop a good understanding of the key topics in corporate finance, as well as the ability to understand and use financial concepts in the professional context.

2. Provide students with the tools to analyze the financial relations between the company and the various stakeholders (shareholders, banks, public authorities, etc.) and to participate in the decision-making process.

3. Develop the ability to understand, critically analyze and evaluate the economic situation and its role in the business environment of the company.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this module, students should be able to:


Outcome 1: Interpret financial analysis tools and technics, participate in technical discussions and make relevant contributions.


Outcome 2: Provide decision support based on appropriate financial techniques and consistent reasoning informed by available information.


Outcome 3: Critically evaluate strategic decisions based on financial information available and informed and argued financial analysis methods and tools.

Présentation

SYNOPSIS :


The module describes the basic principles of corporate finance and puts the emphasis on its usefulness from a managerial perspective. We expose the theory related to the following topics:



  • Relationship between time and value in finance

  • Investment decisions: we display most important tools that a manager can use in order to make decisions regarding investments

  • Financing decisions: we describe how companies can raise funds during their life cycle and the available tools to choose among available funding options

  • Dividend decisions: we explain the importance and ways of returning part of a company value to shareholders

  • Business valuation: we review available methods used to estimate the value of a business.

METHODOLOGY
The teaching philosophy revolves around an effective team working and the use of cases studies.

CLASS ORGANIZATION
This course applies a teaching method that emphasizes participation and the sharing of knowledge and experience. Students are encouraged to keep abreast of current issues in corporate finance.
In addition to the teaching materials that will be made available to the students, articles and real life case studies will be made available and discussed in class. Students will be asked to prepare the articles and case studies in advance and lead discussions on these documents in class. Students should prepare in advance the application exercises provided. Exercises will be discussed after in class.
