European Humanism in the Making: UCLille hosts the 7th FUCE Summer School

From 29 June to 3 July 2026, the Université Catholique de Lille welcomed students and academics from across Europe and beyond for the 7th edition of the European Humanism in the Making Summer School, organized by the European Federation of Catholic Universities (FUCE) and coordinated by the University Centre Saint-Ignatius Antwerp (UCSIA).

Bringing together students from FUCE member universities, the program offered a unique opportunity to reflect on the cultural, philosophical and ethical foundations of the European project. Through lectures, workshops and intercultural exchanges, participants explored the values that shape European identity and discussed the role of higher education in addressing today’s societal challenges.

Inspired by Pope Francis’ call for a renewed European humanism, the Summer School encourages students to rethink Europe’s future through the lenses of democracy, human rights, solidarity and the common good. By fostering dialogue between participants from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, the programme aims to strengthen a shared sense of European citizenship while promoting openness, critical thinking and mutual understanding.

Hosted on the UCLille campus, the Summer School also showcased the University’s commitment to international cooperation and its active role within the FUCE network. Through initiatives such as European Humanism in the Making, Université Catholique de Lille continues to contribute to the development of a more inclusive, responsible and united Europe, where universities serve as key actors in promoting intercultural dialogue and preparing future generations to address global challenges.
