Prerequisite
Being proficient in French.
Goal
- Giving meaning to an image and to a filmed scene.
- Understanding the mechanisms of an audio-visual interaction.
- Developing critical thinking and an audio-visual perspective.
This course develops the following professional skills:
- Implementing a communication plan (creation, budget, follow-up).
- Measuring, comparing and analysing the performance of a communication action.
- Learning about communication techniques, technologies and jobs.
- Being able to work with all professional partners (agencies, companies, etc.).
- Applying “principles” to every action: diligence, autonomy, interdisciplinarity, innovation, inventiveness.
- Understanding the mechanisms of an audio-visual interaction.

Presentation
1st semester:
Theory:
Theoretical sessions to improve photographic and audio-visual camerawork, video editing, and filmed interview direction.
- Image composition (dominant lines, vanishing points, scale of shots, etc.)
- Light (lighting types, light direction, lighting a scene, etc.)
- Sound track (sound recording, musical atmosphere, sound setting and identity, etc.)
- Editing (succession of shots, different types of editing: clip, interview, fiction, etc.)
Practice:
In small groups, students make a professional interview. The rest of the group handles the interview’s lighting, sound recording, shooting, and editing.
- Discovering the main technical positions and identifying the stakeholders.
- Practising video in a professional context (technical framework).
- Improving public speaking on camera (media training).
2nd semester:
4 hours of project presentation per third of the class (12 hours overall).
Students watch all of their class' video projects. They take turns presenting their productions, explaining the context, analysing difficulties and enjoyable points, etc.

Evaluation
Students will be graded individually on the work they turn in for their edited interview.
Assessment criteria: application of theoretical principles, quality of the video, and involvement in the session.
Students will be graded collectively on the preproduction file and on the direction of the expert's interview.
Assessment criteria: ability to organise an audio-visual production, command and quality of the technical execution, originality of the chosen topic.
