Goal

The course aims at providing the students with tools for critical analysis
of international legal devices, discourses and reasonings. It requires personal
reflection and creativity.
By the end of the course you should be able to critically analyze an event, legal
argument or institution of public international law by assessing its normative effect,
structure, historical context and contingency.

Session 2. Architecture and Texture of International Law
Session 3. The Individual in International Law. The Rise of Human Rights
Session 4. Collective Security
Session 5. War as a legal institution
Session 6. Environment: Fragmentation and Technique and expertise in
International Law
Session 7. Trade and economic globalization
Session 8. International Law and Global governance: Private ordering,
regulation, decentralized judicial action

Forms of instruction

The course is divided in 8 lectures of 3 hours each and tutorial sessions taught
by Ms.Claire-Marie Beyet.
All materials will be made available to students before the class on the ICampus
platform.
Students are expected to read and analyze the readings before each lecture and
tutorial.
The lecture will be as much as possible interactive and based of the reading
material. Tutorial are discussion based and require attentive reading and
preparation. They are based on an informed discussion and a critical reading of
the assigned texts.
