Each student must be able to:
- Understand and explain opinions he shares or not.
- Express his personal point of view and disagreement, and put forth his values and beliefs.
Engineering ethics
Each student must be able to realize an oral presentation with a video illustration.
Goal
Developing one’s relationship skills in a professional environment
Each student should be able to:
- Organize and chair a meeting.
- Analyze his behavior and reactions within professional situations.
- Be aware of his strengths and weaknesses.
- Behave differently from usual.
Engineering ethics
Each student should be able to:
- Make the difference between being submitted to an external system of moral values and adopting his own ethical behavior.
- Understand that every situation in which a decision has to be taken is always complex.
- Base his decisions upon an ethical reflexive method in order to avoid the unwanted consequences of impulsive reactions.
- Explain the fundamental concepts of modern ethics (sustainable development, fair trade, etc.)
- Determine if a given mission is in accordance with the Charter of the CNISF ( National Council of Engineers and Scientists of France).
Presentation
Developing one’s relationship skills in a professional environment
- Roles and functions of the leader and of the other persons taking part in a meeting.
- Different types of meetings and their sequences.
- Transactional analysis concepts: the Ego states, transactions, life positions)
Engineering ethics
First semester: interactive course on the following questions:
- What do we call “Ethics” and what is the difference between “Ethics” and “social morality”?
- What are the functions of Ethics in private and professional life?
- What are the limits of Ethics?
- What are the main characteristics of social morality in our contemporary Western world?
- How can we adopt an ethical reflection in a complex concrete situation?
Second semester: Students presentations.
