Prerequisite
Students need to know about the evolution of societies since the Industrial Revolution.
Goal
By the end of this course, students should be able to understand the main paradigms of economic analysis.

This course develops the following professional skills:
- Understanding, analysing and interpreting one’s environment (general knowledge), including the global context.
- Developing your personality with an emphasis on values of integrity, open-mindedness, tolerance, and respect.
- Applying “principles” to every action: diligence, autonomy, interdisciplinarity, innovation, inventiveness.
Presentation
Six topics are broached during five 3-hour sessions:

- the purpose of economic analysis.
- the concept of value.
- role and function of currency.
- the welfare state and the government’s economic interventions.
- development policies.
- the current international economic environment (globalisation, internationalisation, externalisation).

This course is complemented by a choice of 6 conferences which students have to summarise.
