At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
– Master the topics related to design, planning, and control of complex industries in manufacturing and service operations;
– Understand the operations contribution to the development and implementation of successful business strategies;
– Describe industries that exhibit a complex operations structure;
– Identify the diverse complexity dimensions/elements of a business structure/process;
– Demonstrate working knowledge of technologies supporting complex operations;
– Identify emerging organisational structures corresponding to complex operations;
– Define key business processes in complex industries and establish their performance objectives;
– Address and manage ethical issues in complex industries.
This course introduces students to the following topics:
– The different types of operations (decisions for manufacturing/service operations management);
– Complexity dimensions from diverse aspects of operations;
– Uncertainty and resource allocation in supply chains;
– Strategic alliances (e.g., virtual enterprises, supply chain integration);
– Emerging organisational structures corresponding to complex operations;
– Technology to support complex operations;
– Business ethics in complex operations.
