Course Aims and Objectives:

This course introduces students to International Organisation and Non-State Actors in Global Governance. The course covers a wide range of international regimes from human rights, to economic, and environmental and evaluates their role and effectiveness in global affairs.

Course Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

• Demonstrate understanding of the role of International Organisations in International Relations
• Explore the impact of International Organisations on peace and security, economy and the environment
• Evaluate the work of major non-state actors
• Explain how non-state actors effect political change

Week 1: International Organisations in the International Order
Week 2: Theoretical Approaches to International Organisations: Realism, Liberalism, Marxism and Social Constructivism
Week 3: The Role of the United Nations in Global Governance
Week 4: Upholding Order and Justice: The Role of the World Courts – ICJ and ICC
Week 5: Humanitarian Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs): The Role of Amnesty International and the Humna Rights Watch
Week 6: Global Environmental Management
Week 7: Global Economic Regimes
Week 8: The Future of Regional International Order
Week 9: Preparing for Final Exams
