This course explores policy design through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), using interactions with local policy experts. The SDGs aim to promote transformative sustainable development in which “nobody is left behind.” Nation-states have implemented policies which support this agenda. However, not all policies promote sustainability as defined by the SDGs. For this reason, policy coherence for sustainable development focuses on policy interactions and their impacts on sustainable development. This course explores this concept and analyzes its effectiveness within the framework of sustainable development agendas. Specifically, it introduces students to participative research in which they engage local stakeholders in policy coherence for sustainable development discussions.
