This course is designed to provide a basic introduction to leadership by focusing on what it means to be a good leader. Emphasis in the course is on the practice of leadership. The course will examine topics such as: the nature of leadership, recognizing leadership traits, developing leadership skills, creating a vision, setting the tone, listening to out- group members, overcoming obstacles, and addressing values in leadership. Students will assess their and leadership traits improve their own leadership performance.
Outputs :
At the conclusion of this course, students should be able to:
- Use knowledge of leadership theories to critically evaluate the relevance of those theories to their own experience and philosophy of leadership
- Demonstrate skills that contribute to effective leadership including team work, conflict resolution, critical thinking and communication skills
- Reflect on and understand how they can further develop their knowledge, skills and capabilities as leaders and professionals.
