Knowledge of the basic principles of economics, politics, economics and international current events. Good comprehension of English

AIMS – The aims of the course include:

– Stimulating interest in development issues and providing opportunities to learn about different paradigms of development.

– Understanding principles and concepts of Economic Development, as the main theories in Economic Development, definitions of development and underdevelopment concepts, relevance and limitations of development indicators.

– Providing explanations about the existence of poverty and inequalities, evaluating poverty and inequalities and analyzing the reducing policies of poverty and inequalities.

– Providing analysis tools to understand the development trajectory of different countries, as understanding how some countries have achieved the development stage.

– Analyzing an underdevelopment situation through factors of development (like education, health, agriculture, demography, institutions).

– Understanding how trade, globalization and international cooperation affect development of a country.

LEARNING OUTCOMES – At the end of the course, students will be able to:

– Explain and theorize development process.

– Use concrete empirical data to assess economic development, poverty and inequalities.

– Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the complexities of anti-poverty policies.

– Acquire knowledge of the key concepts and principles of Economic Development.

– Identify the characteristics of underdevelopment.

– Explain the sources of inequality and conflicts in developing countries.

– Analyze the quality of institutions in a country and explain how it affects development of a country.

– Explain how trade, globalization, and international cooperation affect development of a country.
