Little Miracle of Lille: Candlelight Mass

The Université Catholique de Lille was recently featured in an article from National Catholic Register, highlighting its candlelight Mass.

In 2016, the chaplaincy here at Université Catholique de Lille launched this initiative, that has since then enjoyed an unexpected and exponential success. The event continues to bring more and more students together.

Every Tuesday evening at 10pm, between 800 and 900 students gather in the University Chapel for this Mass.

    European Summer Program News

The first session of the 23rd edition of the European Summer Program has just come to an end. As we welcome the ESP2 students to our campus this week, the LILLE Programs team is delighted to tell you more about the experience of the program’s participants.

121 STUDENTS   Embarked on an innovative academic and cultural journeyduring the first session of the European Summer Program at Université Catholique de Lille, which ran from May 24th to June 22nd. 65 of them will be staying with us for the 2nd session, along with over a hundred new students who have just arrived this week.

REPRESENTING 13 NATIONALITIES   Students experienced a vibrant multicultural exchangeover the month. This diversity made class discussions more interesting and social gatherings more fun, showcasing the richness different cultures bring to learning abroad.

12 COURSES   Ranging from liberal arts to business, political science, and French language. Our local faculty professors led the lessons and academic visits, along with 5 guest professors from partner universities. This international collaboration enriched the students' learning as a part of our commitment to worldwide academic partnerships.

OVER 15 CULTURAL ACTIVITIES   Were organized to broaden horizons and immerse students in French and European culture. International Night stands out as one of the most remarkable events where students showcased their unique cultures through dance, music, and food. Movie Nights exposed students to the cinematic treasures of the Franco-Belgian region, whilst group dinners allowed them to discover some French and North African culinary specialties.   Our cultural visits, field trips, and guided tours led students to explore Lille's rich historical and artistic heritage, as well as key sites in France and Belgium such as Bruges, Brussels, Ieper, Arras, Paris, Normandy, and Nausicaa. These excursions provided a first-hand immersion in European culture and history and served as a background for forming shared memories and lifelong friendships.

  • Communiqué issued by the Presidency - 02-03-2022

Dear members of our university community,

I would like to share with you a statement by the International Federation of Catholic Universities of which we are a member. We fully endorse this declaration, and strongly condemn the attack on Ukraine.

Shaken by the situation, we are mobilizing the entire institution in support of affected students and academics, setting up solidarity funds, proposing time for peaceful reflection, offering personalized support for Ukrainian and Russian students and assistance with the repatriation of exchange students, and more.

In accordance with the values of the University, we call for an end to the violence and for movement toward reconciliation, with respect for all.

    Patrick SCAUFLAIRE, President-Rector

Statement of the  International Federation of Catholic Universities on the War in Ukraine

The International Federation of Catholic Universities strongly condemns the unprecedented and unjustified attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine, its institutions and its people. The military violence perpetrated cannot be justified by the arguments put forward by President Putin and poses a strong challenge to the peaceful coexistence of nations worldwide.   The International Federation of Catholic Universities is a global organization  founded in 1924 with the mission of strengthening international academic cooperation, precisely in the wake of one of the most ravaging conflicts on the European continent, in the belief that a free and values-based higher education is crucial to the advancement of justice, human rights and the rule of law .     Sharing our members’ anguish and concern, we call on the Russian authorities to refrain from further hostile actions that would inflict even more suffering and disregard the principles of international law. War is a grave violation of human dignity and has no place in our world.   The Federation assures the Ukrainian people, and more particularly the Ukrainian academic community, of its unwavering support. IFCU expresses a special encouragement to its friends of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) and offers assistance. We feel, as Pope Francis expressed in the general audience of February 23, great pain, concern and anguish about the conflict and, following his example, we call on all parties involved to "refrain from any action that would cause further suffering to the people", "destabilize peaceful coexistence" and "discredit international law".   The Administrative Board of the International Federation of Catholic Universities calls on all of its member universities to express concrete support for Ukrainian scholars and students, as requested by the Catholic University of Ukraine. This can take various forms, such as hosting students and scholars, scholarships, online courses, donations.    The International Secretariat of the Federation is at the disposal of its members, and more generally of those who wish to provide support, to facilitate this assistance.
