Goal
- Communicating in everyday situations (shops, restaurants, administrations, various social places) and understanding simple written or oral information.
- Greeting people: saying hello, asking how people are doing and taking leave formally and informally.
- Introducing yourself and others, talking about yourself (hobbies, tastes, loved ones) and asking others to do the same.
- Giving your opinion, expressing satisfaction and disagreement.
- Apologizing, asking for help or information, thanking people.
- Mentioning your location and direction in space, briefly describing a place orally and in writing in the present tense.
- Describing time and setting an appointment.
- Describing several objects in broad terms (dimension, colour, material) and comparing them.

This course develops the following professional skills:
- Understanding, analysing and interpreting one’s environment (general knowledge), including the global context.
- Developing your personality with an emphasis on values of integrity, open-mindedness, tolerance, and respect.
- Applying “principles” to every action: diligence, autonomy, interdisciplinarity, innovation, inventiveness.
- Being able to lead a team and manage projects from start to finish, including in an international context.
Presentation
Phonetics, grammar and vocabulary (A1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages):
Pronunciation, rhythm and assimilations.
Spelling rules and basic grammar and sentence structures.
Part of the fundamental vocabulary (the 1000 most commonly used words) and common idiomatic terms.

Sociolinguistics: helpful sociocultural aspects of Dutch-speaking countries when learning the language.
Phrases determined by codes or customs.
Rules of courtesy.
What register to use depending on who you’re speaking or writing to.
