Objectifs

To acquire knowledge about important questions regarding the U.S. population; to gain an understanding of important issues in U.S. society; to learn to analyze and comment on primary and secondary documents; and acquire oral and written skills in English

The course is divided into five thematic units, which in each case will be approached from an historical perspective:


- Settlement of North America and the growth of the United States


- Immigration


- Native Americans


- Slavery and African Americans


- Mexican Americans/Hispanics

Les étudiants devront entreprendre un travail personnel aussi substantiel que régulier. La lecture des textes indiqués et celle d’un livre est l’indispensable complément au cours, il permet d’éviter l’apprentissage « par cœur » tout en apportant les informations qui ne peuvent être vues en cours, faute de temps.
