Présentation
The course’s objectives are numerous but its main purpose is to provide students with the necessary
tools to understand and analyse the nature, role and effects of EU institutions, proceedings and
decision-making.
Expected deliverables:
Knowledge and understanding
ï‚· Demonstrate general knowledge and understanding of basic notions of institutions and actors
of European integration, and the role of EU law in that process.
ï‚· Demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of the most important EU institutions
and proceedings.
Skills
ï‚· Demonstrate the ability to find, select and evaluate primary and secondary EU law.
ï‚· Demonstrate a good understanding of the EU institutional proceedings and decision-making
process.
The first two sessions will lay the necessary grounds, that is, introduce
historical aspects of the European integration, emergence of EU law, its general principles, main actors and an overview of general institutional design.
Starting from the third week, we will look at the production and implementation of EU law, main as
well as secondary institutions representing Member States, supra-national EU institutions, etc. We will finish the course by discussing general access to justice, and who can become an EU citizen, including a corporate one, and influence the Union’s decision-making, and who can become a litigant and influence litigation, as well as who could be actually affected by such decisions, including EU Member States.

General teaching methods
This course will be highly interactive and hopefully entertaining. It will be based on a
combination of lectures, extensive interactive class discussions, and expected student
participation.
Course work
For lectures, participants are expected to have covered the reading in advance for each class.
The list of the materials will be provided at the beginning of the course. Students are likewise
expected to actively participate in class discussions, individual presentations, and group
debates and presentations.
Tutorials
Tutorials will be based on in-class discussion. You will look at different materials and discuss
them. Preparation, attendance and active participation in the tutorials are mandatory.
