OBJECTIVE

to review both the scientific background and technological potential of renewable energy. To describe/illustrate basic scientific/technological concepts of the main renewable energy generation techniques such as solar, biomass, hydro and wind. Successfully propose a technically/economically sound methodology to generate renewable energy for underdeveloped countries. Work in a team setting project.

CONTENT

Main sources of energy and their primary applications in the world. Challenges and problems associated with the use of various energy sources, including fossil fuels, with regard to future supply and the environment. The social, economical, environmental, theoretical and technological background of renewable energy generation. Integration of renewable energy sources into a domestic environment using intelligent control. Visit renewable energy generation sites in France

EDUCATIONAL METHODS

Problem solving, interactive class, lecture, case studies, presentations, projects, group work.
A class of maximum 25 students for a more interactive teaching.

PREREQUISITE Understand and speak academic level English. Physics and calculus. Engineering, social science and science students are the general audience of the course..

ASSESSMENT

The grade is based on the assignments, final written exam, and quality of engineering projects as well as the written and oral presentation. Extra time involvement for the projects is required.
