OBJECTIVE

At the end of the course, the students should be capable of understanding the global crisis from a general perspective in terms of causes and should gain an insight into some of the issues in terms of government policy and business recovery and the challenge it has posed to marketing in particular.

CONTENT

Students will become familiar with some of the key concepts (economic, political, cultural and business) related to different aspects of the global economy in crisis.
By the end of the course they should have some knowledge of some of the major cultural and national differences highlighted by the crisis based around the 3 major themes below
Government Policy and Intervention,
A Business Sector perspective to response and recovery,
Marketing and the challenge to International Business
Students will be able to explain the main constraints and drivers on the management of people in the EU. They will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the key theoretical models - Resource based View; Positoning models; Best Practice and Contigency models.

EDUCATIONAL METHODS

Lectures and discussions in class.
8 sessions of 3 hours + a conference at the European Parliament in Brussels + an integrated study visit on World War 1.
Personal work.
A class of maximum 25 students for a more interactive teaching.

ASSESSMENT

Continuous assessment, final written exam and oral presentations.
