Prerequisites

- Communicating autonomously and accurately in an Italian-speaking environment in a number of everyday situations;
- Recognizing, understanding and synthetising the content of an original cultural document (text, audio or video, image);
- Presenting information;
- Expressing a personal point of view and giving a well-argued response to a diverging opinion.

Learning outcomes

- Communicating autonomously and accurately in an Italian-speaking living and working environment;
- Growing familiar with key elements of Italian culture and civilisation;
Recognizing various language registers and using them appropriately;
- Recognizing implicit meanings and messages in a document, whether it be written, spoken or filmed;
- Keeping up to date on Italian current events;
- Learning correct pronunciation, more or less common language structures, the typical elements and transformations of Italian society, through songs and a selection of films.

This course develops the following professional skills:
- Understanding, analysing and interpreting one’s environment (general knowledge), including the global context;
- Designing and presenting a through-the-line communication strategy: drawing it up, presenting and defending it (being able to justify the choices made);
Developing your personality with an emphasis on values of integrity, open-mindedness, tolerance, and respect;
- Applying “principles” to every action: diligence, autonomy, interdisciplinarity, innovation, inventiveness.

Course description

Grammar:
More extensive study of present and imperfect subjunctive, all past forms, indirect and combined pronouns, “il periodo ipotetico”. In-depth work on oral communication.

Vocabulary and communication elements:
- Planning to live in Italy;
- Renting an apartment;
- Reading and understanding an estate agency ad, being able to choose one out of several;
- Knowing the basics of Italian administrative terminology and vocabulary (in priority pertaining to the academic world), recognizing it in several contexts and using it appropriately;
- The Italian business world;
- Themes and vocabulary: the course will revolve around Italian industries, their installation, the French industry and trade interests in Italy, and the Italian industry and trade interests in France;
- Business world language structures.

Cultural elements:
The outlines given in the course description in no way restrict potential cultural explorations, they are only a starting point.
Introduction to the world of communication and advertising in Italy today.
