Objectifs du cours

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- Take the official IELTS Academic test (English language proficiency test) with full confidence.
- Demonstrate greater proficiency, breadth, effectiveness and accuracy in the four language skills.
- Achieve an official IELTS score that reflects his or her full potential (a minimum of 6.5 average).
- Think critically and express his or her opinions on a range of complex and abstract topics.
- Apply his or her improved and task-appropriate writing skills to writing assignments for other subjects.
- Deal with unnerving situations (exams, interviews, time limits).

Contenu du cours

This course prepares students for the IELTS Academic test in order to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate study in English, or join a professional organisation in which the working language is English. IELTS evaluates the four language skills in four dedicated parts: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. Familiarisation with the four parts of the test will be conducted via past papers, listening samples and videos.
Lessons will comprise of practical exercises to develop language skills and exam techniques. These will include exercises to optimise reading and listening comprehension skills, employ appropriate and effective language for writing, broaden one's lexical resource, increase grammatical accuracy, improve fluency and coherence, use pronunciation to heighten meaning and add nuance, as well as deal with nerves and build self-confidence. Students will be encouraged to develop their general knowledge in order to prepare for the range of topics that may appear in a real IELTS.

Évaluation

Continuous assessment tasks are based on the four parts of the IELTS test (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking) and class participation which includes completion of homework after each lesson.
The final exam will be based on the official IELTS and will take place during the exam period.
