Objectifs du cours

- understand how non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have become exponentially more prominent, over the past century in our unequally contrasting world
- approach confidently the so-called "Aid market", the different categories of stakeholders and their mandates within the sector, how they work together and evolve, different types of programmes, essential challenges facing the humanitarian community
- explain strategies and practice techniques related to project management within NGOs (through case studies of various established international NGOs)
- identify various types of volunteer implications and careers on humanitarian / development projects for vulnerable communities.

Contenu du cours

- Overview of international and regional socio-political paradigms: hunger, health care, demography, environment, Human Rights, gender equality etc.
- Framework of international development and humanitarian assistance
- Presentation of the UN agencies (UNDP, UNICEF), Millennium Goals and Sustainable Development Goals
- Public (ECHO, USAID) and private Financers
- Key issues related to the development of NGOs (independence, specialisation, transparency, Quality & Accountability …)
- Operational efficiency, sustainability and evaluation
- Project management in international intergovernmental or non-governmental organizations
- Case studies: UNDP, Oxfam, Care, the Red Cross Movement, Action Contre la Faim…
