Pré requis

The student should know some basic notions of optimization and matrix calculation (Introduction to optimization methods); also the student should know the basic use of Excel.

Objectifs du cours

The aim of this course is to study optimization models, associated solving methods, as well as the approaches to follow in order to model real problems. At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
o Model the concrete firms problematic
o Master the solving methods
o Interpret the obtained results

Contenu du cours

- introduction to operation research
- modeling
- introduction to the simplex method: the geometrical approach and the analytic method
- the simplex method: theory, exercises, special cases
- sensitivity analysis
- duality

Évaluation

The students will be assessed through 2 methods:
- projects: to assess their ability to model a case , solve it using Excel and interpret the results to take managerial decisions
- written exam: to assess their ability to solve small cases using OR techniques (simplex and geometrical method); to assess their ability to interpret the results
