It is also necessary to have a knowledge of general English vocabulary covering a wide range of topics and an understanding of the grammatical structure of sentences.
The ability to make inferences, draw conclusions and identify a wide range of topics is also a prerequisite.

Objectifs du cours

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
undertake the real TOEFL Test with confidence after having practiced and built upon the necessary skills of Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing required for the TOEFL Test (an evaluation of proficiency in the English language).

Contenu du cours

The course provides practice in the skills required for the paper-based and computer-based TOEFL, in the four areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. It consists of a series of Diagnostic Tests to help identify the areas which may need extra practice with reviews of grammar and vocabulary as required. There is also a series of Practice Tests in each of the four areas, given within the time limits imposed in the real test, to ensure good time management. It should be noted that the course is designed as a preparation course for the TOEFL Exam itself, and therefore the content is very much test based. There is a large amount of work that can be undertaken using books from the Library or information on different websites or intranet, but this is left up to the student to decide how or when to use it. The student will have an idea of the extra practice needed from the work that is undertaken in class. There is also work on Iéseg online that is obligatory.
