Pré requis

Students will need to have had exposure to a basic course in management/strategy and in the basics of accounting and microeconomics. The first part of the course will be dedicated to revise the key basic contents of strategy theory, to make sure all students are familiar with basic strategy notions (five forces, definition of competitive advantage)

Objectifs du cours

The objective of the course is to put students in the condition to:
• Understand what is and how to perform a strategy evaluation
• Apply correctly theory concepts to perform a strategic analysis
• Apply advanced strategy concepts to cases of innovation and international management
• Identify and explain the complexity of management as reflected in a simulation exercise

Contenu du cours

This is a more advanced course on strategy (as compared to the one delivered in year 3 at IESEG). It will delve into more details of core strategy theory and will extend the analysis to innovation and international strategy. Students are expected to have completed a basic strategy course before, although some aspect of the basic course will be reviewed in the part on distance learning and will be tested at the end of September.
Theory will be taught using online modules on a distance learning platform which will require students to read contents and complete exercises. The platform will allow communication with the lecturer when needed.
In the TD students will be asked to work in groups on a simulation that will ask them to take strategy decisions.TD classes will be dedicated to consultancy session between each group and the tutor, while students will work on the actual simulation between the different sessions. At the end they will be asked to produce a strategy report.
