Pré requis

This course is a combination of classroom discussion, case analysis and market entry strategy development and presentation. Students must know how to research a market. They must be comfortable with case analysis and class discussion. Students must also be able to work in teams. They will be expected to participate in a presentation of their project.

Objectifs du cours

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- understand the three individual markets of North America
- understand the foundations of the North American Market
- understand the combined North American Market
- understand the differences and similarities between NAFTA and the EU
- develop a market entry strategy for North America
- identify, analyze and utilize electronic data sources on North American markets

Contenu du cours

Part 1 - The separate markets of North America - the United States, Canada and Mexico - will be discussed. Cases and business articles will introduce some of the important issues in understanding North America. The historical and cultural foundations for the market integration of NAFTA will be identified. Electronic data sources will be described.

Part 2 - The combined North American market will be examined. Cases that exemplify the forces pulling the North American market together and those that are pulling it apart will be used.

Part 3 - A comparison of the economic integration of the North American market and the economic and political integration of the EU will be discussed. Cases showing how these markets differ and how different strategies are necessary will be presented.
