Pré requis

Students should be familiar with introductory principles of microeconomics and management (organizational behaviour, human resources and strategy).

Objectifs du cours

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
1) Understand differences in models of health care finance and delivery, (2) Use macro level data to compare national health system inputs and outputs, (3) Understand key health service (hospital) management functions and how national system environments shape them, (4) Become familiar with current trends and issues in health services management and (5) Apply this knowledge to solving health service management problems as a manager, consultant and/or policy maker

Contenu du cours

This course
(1) broadly compares the institutions and performance of health care systems,
(2) introduces features of health service (hospital) management and
(3) investigates how managers in different national health systems address key issues and challenges.
Specific issues include governance, strategy, organizational design, service quality, accreditation, ethics and human resource management. The countries focused on include France, the UK, the US, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Canada. Throughout students will bring perspectives and experiences from their respective countries The comparative perspective enables students to better understand their own systems.
