Objectifs du cours

At the end of the cours,e the student should be able to:
Comprehend the operations and supply chain activities as a key driver of organizational performance (AOL)
Know the major places of garment production in the world
Have capacity to take contact with potential supplier overseas
List and explain the major steps of production of a garment : sampling, pattern making, markers, cutting, stitching, finishing, packing, shipping
Calculate total cost of ownership for a garment
Score the interest of a potential supplier and constantly search for improvement
Visit a factory with professionnal eyes
Argument the nececity of having a strong supply chain to be performant on the market
Feel the interest of working with other departments in the company to have a performant supply chain
Make suppliers source of profitability, reliability, creativity
Consider environemental and social compliance as fully part of the business

Worldwide sourcing : overview of the world sourcing zones
Impact on market of recent upheavals : currencies, raw materials, labor cost, stock exchange, political facts
Multi lateral agreements under negotiation that will impact the sourcing conditions
Sourcing strategy : where to prospect? Who should we contact? What do we expect from a supplier?
Decision making process : what is behind a price? From buying price to Total Cost of Ownership.
Sampling policy
Videos and pictures of garment under productions, taken inside factories
Transport and logistical issues, INCOTERMS, balancing near and overseas sourcing
Sustainibility. How did it change over the recent years?
