Pré requis

Undergraduate courses in introduction to financial accounting and strategic management are required. This course builds on an understanding of basic financial reporting, corporate annual reports, and the principle theories of strategic management in order to bridge the practice of performance measurement and strategic management.

Objectifs du cours

Explain the "business case" for CSR and sustainability reporting
Identify the strategic linkages between what non-financial performance metrics get measures/reported and managed
Describe the strategic importance of effective stakeholder engagement
Read and interpret a sustainability report prepared in accordance with GRI (G4) guidelines

Contenu du cours

Topics:
* The business case for CSR
* Integrating sustainability reporting and the strategic management process
* Creating a CSR-focused corporate culture
* Identification of material issues (what to measure, what to manage)
* Best practice in sustainability reporting
* Strategic tools for monitoring, managing, and improving nonfinancial performance
This course provides in-depth coverage of concepts, practices, and applications of CSR/sustainability practices and their strategic impact. Integrative topics will culminate in a group project that uses current sustainability reports to analyze impact, strategic implications, and evidence of best practices.
