Pré requis

Students who register for this course should
1. be familiar with programming logics. Having knowledge in other programming languages is an asset.
2. be familiar with basic calculus, statistics and econometrics;
3. have a basic knowledge of data management (e.g., MS Excel);

Objectifs du cours

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- understand how SAS is built and how to run a code
- import data in SAS and manage it
- write a parsimonious code to answer a (research) question
- use the basic steps and procedure of SAS
- use the SQL program language to filter databases
- use macros and macro-variables in SAS
- use SAS Help to solve any SAS-related issue

Contenu du cours

The objective of this course is to provide the students with appropriate methods in order to reach an objective in SAS. The tools investigated in this course are the different ways to import and export data in SAS, the different steps and procedures, the use of SQL language in SAS as well as the macros and macrovariables. Eventually, students should be able to manage databases in SAS and to write a parcimonious code in order to optimize computer resources and produce the desired output.

Évaluation

In-class final examination. A different SAS issue is proposed to each student. Once this is done, the student calls the Professor who will verify whether the student has reached the objective or not and ask some questions about the related issue.
