Ideally, students have some background knowledge of organizational behavior.

Objectifs du cours

1. Answer the question 'what is human resource management (HRM)?'; explain why knowing HRM concepts and techniques is important; be aware of trends in HRM and the role of (HR) strategy
2. Explain the main techniques used in employment planning, recruitment and selection
3. List and briefly explain the training process including the assessment of training needs and developing, implementing and evaluating a training program
4. Explain the purpose, methods and potential problems of performance appraisal
5. List the basic factors determining pay rates; define and explain job evaluation; name and discuss different types of incentive schemes
6. Have greater awareness about ESRS topics such as the importance of diversity in the workplace, fairness and the ways in which HR management can influence ethical behaviour at work.

Contenu du cours

This is an introductory course on human resource management (HRM). It explores several specific themes including HRM and Strategy (sesssion 1); Employment planning, recruitment and selection (session 2); training and human resource development (session 3); Performance Management and Appraisal (session 4); Pay structures and incentive pay (session 5); a 'wildcard' HR related topic of professor's choice (session 6) and a wrap up (session 7)

The course assessment consists of four components: (1) participation during the sessions (20%); (2) 3 individual pre-class assignments (30%); (3) a group assignment (25%); (4) a final MCQ exam (25%)
