Objectifs du cours

At the end of the course the student should be able to :
1. Understand the objectives of a selection process, and the various selection tools that organizations can employ to select employees
2. Develop selection tools, such as structured interview questions
3. Explain what is required for an employee selection tool to be reliable and valid, and the barriers to choosing a suitable applicant
4. Compare the value of different types of selection tools
5. Describe various decision strategies for selection

Contenu du cours

The course will commence with an overview of the approaches to selection, followed by a brief review of job analysis and recruitment, two building blocks of selection. The remainder of the course will focus on understanding, creating, evaluating, and/or practicing a variety of selection tools, including structured interviews, cognitive ability and personality inventories, work sample tests, etc. Emphasis will be placed on available scientific evidence in management and psychology literatures on the validity and reliability of these tools. Students will also be informed of the various ways that decisions can be made once adequate information is sourced from job applicants.

Évaluation

There are three assessment components
1. Class activities and Participation: Each class will have a number of activities in which students will need to participate with prior preparation. These will involve performance as individuals.
2. Final Examination: examination with multiple choice questions
3. Group Project: This work will be done in groups. For this, students will form self-selected groups of 4 persons each in the first class. A written report will be submitted.
