Objectifs du cours

Qualitative Part

1. Perform a literature review
2. Use Nvivo software for qualitative research, more specifically:
3. Import documents into Nvivo to analyse them
4. Code sections of text using Nvivo
5. Create nodes and sub-nodes in Nvivo
6. Use specific features of Nvivo to help analyse the text

Quantitative Part

1. Effectively use SPSS for data entry and data management
2. Understand how to calculate and evaluate scales for research and report descriptive statistics
3. Perform analyses that examine associations amongst variables, including correlation, simple/multiple/hierarchical regression, moderation, and mediation
4. Perform analyses that compare groups, including t-tests and ANOVAs
5. Choose the appropriate statistical test for a given research question
6. Understand and clearly describe the results of quantitative analyses

Please note:
This is a "flipped learning" course. In other words, you will not be taught course materials by the Professor during class. Instead, you be provided with pre-reading materials that you are required to complete in advance of each class. This includes the first class (so you must log onto the course website on IESEG online and do the pre-reading in advance of the first scheduled class). During class, you will work with your peers to complete assessed assignments in which you apply what you learned in the pre-reading. Therefore, you must pick up the textbooks from the library well in advance of the first scheduled class.

Qualitative part (50%)

Students will complete 3 group assignments. One pre class assignment (worth 30%) and 2 subsequent assignments (worth 35% each). Students will work in pairs for their assignments.

Quantitative part (50%)

Students will complete 6 group assignments. Each assignment must be completed during class. Each assignment is worth 16.67% of the final grade. For each group assignment, the students will be assigned to different groups.

Note: Students must pass each module separately (over 10/20 on each of the qualitative and quantitative parts). If a student fails one part (either quantitative or qualitative), the student must re-take the part that he or she failed only.
