Objectifs du cours

This course consists of:
- Developing critical thought and scientific reasoning
- Developing the ability of students to do research, to analyse and summarize information about a specific subject
- Introducing students to the notion of time in a contemporary economic context from both a historical and prospective point of view
- Defining a general framework for the global economic evolution from the Middle-Ages until now
- Discovering the genesis and the current state of the economic and poilitical integration of Europe.

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- Know the ins and outs of economic globalization.
- Understand the challenges of the construction of Europe.
- Produce, as a team, a report on a specific subject and present it persuasively to an audience

Contenu du cours

Chapter I: The globalization of history
- "Venice and the first important example of western globalisation"
- "The Atlantic globalization"
- "The birth of modern capitalism"
- "Triangular business"

Chapter II: The history of European construction
- "Expansion and stagnation of European construction (1960-1992)"
- "European Union from Maastricht to the European constitution (1992-2008)"
- "Prospects for and challenges facing the European Union (2008-2015)"


Modalités d'enseignement

Organisation du cours

The course is built around two different approaches: lectures and tutorials where notions learned during the lectures are studied in depth.
An active participation is expected from students during the tutorial debates.
