Objectifs du cours

Understand and discuss the impacts of information and information systems on individuals, organizations, and society as a whole
• Understand the nature of, and distinguish the roles of, various types of Enterprise Information Systems (EIS)
• Understand and discuss the core issues relating to data, data management, and IS use for business intelligence
• Explain how IS can be used effectively to support communication and e-commerce
• Manage the ethical and security issues relating to the use of IS
• Plan and undertake a group project that fully analyzes the use of various information systems in an organization

Contenu du cours

This course provides an introduction to information systems (IS) and information technology (IT) and their importance in organizations. These systems are the cornerstone of the rapidly evolving information age we live in today. As future managers, you need to have a solid understanding of how to best leverage information systems to achieve a competitive advantage, how to manage data and extract business intelligence from it, how to best use technology for communication and collaboration, and how to manage the ethical and security risks of IS. The course is comprised of five modules relating to IS and IS management:

1. The impacts of information and information systems on individuals, organizations, and society
2. Enterprise Information Systems (EIS)
3. Data, data management, and IS for business intelligence
4. Communication, Internet, and e-commerce
5. Ethical and security issues relating to the use of information technology
