Day 1
-Introduction - What is Fashion ?

-1900 - 1919 Poiret, Les Ballets Russes, Fashion as Art

Day 2
-1920 - 1929 The Modern Style, the European Avant Garde, Chanel, Vionnet, Sonia Delaunay, Lanvin
- 1930 - 1939 The main fashion designers of the 20th century, Hollywood, Schiaparelli
- 1940 - 1945 The WWII, Fashion at the Ration and the Utility Suit, The Zoot Suit, Le Petit Theâtre de la Mode
- 1947 - 1959 The Dior Revolution, Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy
Day 3.
- 1960 - 1969 Street Style, Space Age, Courrèges, Paco Rabanne, Pierre Cardin, Mary Quant

A field trip to Paris exhibition 'Anatomie d'une collection' at PALAIS GALLIERA will take place during class hours. Day and hour will be specified in class.

Évaluation

The course assessment consists of a group historical research of a designer's brand.
Each group of students writes a 2000 word essay on the designer's brand, explores her/his biography, analyses examples of Couture and/or Ready to Wear collections, identifies the sources of inspirations and exemplifies some celebrity endorsements, all visually illustrated and contextualized. The research will question what is the designer's legacy in contemporary fashion and art. Presentation will take place on Friday at 10 am, through an in-class presentation of a 10 minutes Power point with a maximum 10 slides. Each student of the group should contribute equally to the group's workload and oral presentation. A printed copy (Helvetica font, font size 12, double spaced) will be handed in at the beginning of Friday's class. Power point : white wall paper, Helvetica font.
