Laptop and Internet

Do I need to bring my laptop?

Some courses may require the use of a computer to do some research on the internet or prepare reports or oral presentations.  We recommend that you bring your laptop.

You will have access to a computer lab from 9am to 5pm on weekdays. A printer is available for which you need to buy a card. Information and advice will be given on arrival.
Please be aware that in France, computers have “AZERTY” keyboards (not “QWERTY”) and they are mostly PC and not Mac computers.

The main university building has wireless connections and you will be given access.

What will I need to connect my computer in France?

The main university building has wireless connections and you will be given access.  Not all dorms have Wi-Fi and you are therefore recommended to bring the relevant cables to connect your laptop, tablet, or phone to the network in the dorm.  Some wireless routers are available for a deposit from the ESP office.

Do I have access to the internet at the university?

You will have access to the University wireless network and there is a computer lab on campus.  The computer lab is open from 9am to 5pm on weekdays. It is closed in the evenings and on weekends.
Access to internet in the computer lab is restricted to doing some research, preparing reports (use of Word, Excel, Powerpoint…) and consulting emails. It is forbidden to go on social networking sites in the lab.

If you plan to bring a laptop with you, you will be able to access wireless connection in most part of our university buildings.

Do I have access to the internet in the dorm?

If you're bringing your laptop:
Wireless connection is starting to develop in France and is more and more frequent (trains, public buildings, etc.), but maybe not as much as in your home country. However, for the last few years, Lille Catholic University has started developing such facilities, meaning now, you can have access to the internet in the main university building as well as in some dorms.  You are therefore recommended to bring the relevant cables to connect your laptop, tablet of phone to the network in the dorm.

If you're not bringing your laptop:
You will have access to a computer lab in the university on week days from 9 AM to 5 PM.
